Sportives

Sportives have become increasingly popular over recent years. They appeal to cyclists of all abilities and offer riders a challenge with various distances to choose from.

They offer the opportunity to meet other cyclists of equal ability over new routes and parts of the country.

Most are well organised and supply

  • A safe place to park if you've driven to the event
  • Route maps or GPS files to download to your Garmin or similar device
  • Transponders to fit to your bike and record your progress and times
  • Drinks, energy bars and other freebies at the start
  • Regular places along the way to refuel or take a break
  • Mechanical support
  • Medical backup in the event of accidents.

Strictly speaking they are not a race but many competitive cyclists will want to beat their friends and team mates to the finish and post a good time!

Our sportive secretary will keep members up to date with sportives in our area and help coordinate the logistics and transport on the day.
