Dave Lowson achieves number one spot in the League Of Veteran Race Cyclists (LVRC) for Stevenage Cycling Club
Stevenage Cycling Club entered three veteran race cyclists in the LVRC event at The National Bowl in Milton Keynes on 14th April. The first bright and warm day for months and a speedy race to start the veteran’s season. Dave Lowson, Gary Smithson and Paul Milner represented Stevenage and were competing alongside teams from Hitchin, St. Albans, St. Ives, Milton Keynes and as far afield as Gloucestershire.
The LVRC organises races in age categories from age 40 through to some at 80+.
The race was around a circuit approximately three quarters of a mile and lasts for 40 minutes plus three laps. The objective is to get around with the rest of the racers for 40 minutes without losing any ground and then to race the last three laps. In reality it is very fast from the rolling start onwards. Race placings are decided with first past the post after the final three laps. Dave finished 11th overall with Paul in 14th and Gary in 16th out of a field of 24. All three are new to these types of races and were very pleased with the outcome. Further races are planned this year with a potential for regular Tuesday evening races from May onwards.
