SCC and The Mallorca 312

May 6, 2024 By Walt Cahill

SCC and The Mallorca 312

As in previous years the timing of the SCC annual two week trip to Mallorca coincided with the annual Mallorca 312 cycling event which is one of the toughest endurance events in the sportive calendar and one of the highest profile events in Europe.
This year five adventurous SCC Members entered the event.

Starting and finishing in Alcudia, the overall event takes on several substantial ascents in the Tramuntana mountain range such as the Col de Femenia and Col de sa Redissa plus a loop that takes in the rustic old own of Arta.

The 312 is a Gran Fondo event (closed road sportive) and is always in high demand. This year all 8000 tickets sold out in just 6 minutes.

There is a choice of three interlinking courses within the Mallorca 312 event, 167km, 225km and 312km.

167km Course
Turning back to Pollença after passing through Valldemossa at the 95km mark, this course incorporates 2475m of climbing. The majority of Mallorca 312 participants complete this course.

225km Course
In addition to the 167km course the 225km course takes in Banyalbufar and Andratx. This course covers the vast majority of the island’s hardest inclines and gains 3980m of elevation. It cuts off the final eastern loop to Arta that makes up the 312km route.

312km Course
In addition to the 167km and 225km courses the 312km adds on an extra section heading out from Sa Pobla t0 Arta before returning to Alcudia. The full 312 km course includes an additional 1070 m of elevation to provide a total of ascent of 5050m.

SCC club members, Stephen Anderson, Lee Block and Stefan Ford (left to right below) all successfully completed the 225km course of the Mallorca 312 in respectable time.

SCC club member Joe Gorman (below) completed the full 312km course riding on behalf of his racing team, Arctic Arcon RT in both respectable time and position.

SCC member, Walt Cahill (below) also completed the full 312km course making him the first ever Mallorca 312 entrant to complete the full 312km distance riding under the banner of the Stevenage Cycling Club.
